Chesley passes Cheers to become UMA All-Time Leading Scorer

RUTLAND, Vt. - Senior Keith Chesley continued his assault on the UMA record books Saturday afternoon, when he passed Deon Cheers to become the all-time leading scorer in the history of UMA basketball; a history that goes back to 1965. The captain surpassed Cheers and went on to score a team-high 22 points in a tough 90-86 point loss to the College of Saint Joseph's of Vermont, who are currently ranked fourth overall in the USCAA Division II.

For the week, the Moose have come a collective 11 points shy of defeating two of the top teams in the country, while taking down division rival University of Maine at Machias on Thursday night, when Chesley broke the 2,000 point barrier. 

Cheers set the former record of 2029 points from 2006-2009, and with at least three games remaining this season, Chesley currently stands at 2,045 points. In his freshman campaign, the power forward scored 338 points and improved on that with 432 points in his sophomore season. 

In his junior year, Chesley exploded for 674 points, leading the nation in scoring while setting the single-season record for points in a season, 674, eclipsing the previous mark of 660 that stood since 1986. As a senior, Chesley has scored 601 points through 26 games, averaging 23.1 points per game which ranks him second in the Yankee Small College Conference behind only Unity's Eddie Kopacz who leads the country with 29.8 per game. Chesley currently ranks third in DII in scoring. 

Chesley and the Moose return for the final home game of the season on Tuesday night when the men and women's teams play host to NHTI in conference action. The men play the early game at 5:30 and seniors from both teams will be honored in between games.
