Men’s basketball comes up short in gutsy game against Fort-Kent
Gutsy is the only word to describe the effort of the University of Maine at Augusta men’s basketball team Tuesday night, despite ending up up on the wrong side of a 104-97 loss to Division I Fort Kent at the Civic Center. Fort Kent came into the game ranked 10th in the nation in USCAA DI while the Moose are currently tied for 15th place in Division II.
AUGUSTA, Maine - Gutsy is the only one to describe the effort of the University of Maine at Augusta men's basketball team Tuesday night, despite ending up up on the wrong side of a 104-97 loss to Division I Fort Kent at the Civic Center. Fort Kent came into the game ranked 10th in the nation in USCAA DI while the Moose are currently tied for 15th place in Division II.
The Moose (11-13, 6-4 YSCC), who trailed by as many as 15 in the game, battled back to within one point with 7:22 remaining in regulation before the Bengals (18-13) rattled off an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to hang on for the win.
UMA was led by Keith Chesley (Clinton, Maine) who, after getting off to a slow start, rallied for 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half. The senior captain was 7-8 from behind the arc in helping the Moose rally in the second half. Senior Brandon Rogers (Turlock, Calif.) scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while also dishing out five assists. Freshman Noah Thompson (Yuma, Ariz.) netted 18 points with four triples while fellow freshman Joseph Davila (Hartford, Conn.) came off the bench to tie his season high for points with 15.
The Moose return to action on Thursday evening when the team hosts the University of Maine at Machias in a critical conference match up. The men play the the second game, starting at 7:30.
