Moose rally from 18 to defeat Maine Maritime

CASTINE, MAINE – University of Maine-Augusta rallied from an 18-point first half deficit to beat Maine Maritime
57-54 in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night. The Moose improved to 2-6 while the Mariners fell to 0-3.
Andrew Pullen led all scorers with 20 points for UMA while teammates Keith Chesley and Walker Cooper added 15 and 13. Chesley also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. MMA was led by Paul Campbell's 16 points and Andy Ball (Hermon, Maine) added 14. Tyler Chiasson (Dixfield, Maine) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and Campbell (Camden, Maine) and Ball both had eight boards.
Maine Maritime jumped out to a 9-0 lead and increased its advantage to 14, 21-7, on Campbell's layup at 13:55. After a trey from Chelsey, the Mariners went on a 7-0 run, with five points from Nick Holt and a bucket by Campbell, to lead 30-12 with 11:00 left in the first half. UMA answered with an 18-3 run to close the gap to 3, 33-30, with 1:31 left and tied the game on Chelsey's buzzer-beating three just before halftime.
UMA opened the second half with a 10-2 run and took a 43-35 lead on Cooper's three with 13:55 left in the game. The Mariners responded with an 11-3 scoring run to get within one, 47-46, on a Campbell layup at 9:03. Campbell's layup three minutes later gave MMA its first lead of the half, 50-49, with 6:20 left in the game. The Mariners led by four, 53-49, before UMA rallied to even the game at 54 with 1:47 left. Cooper gave the Moose a 55-54 lead with a free throw before Darrel Stephen sank a pair of foul shots with 13 seconds left.
