Alumni Spotlight: Ashley Peaslee
WHITEFIELD, ME—Ashley Peaslee came to UMA in the fall of 2008 and wasn’t really sure what to expect. She played sports all through high school and her teammate Jessica St.Amand helped talk her into continuing to play for UMA. Peaslee was an immediate standout for both soccer and basketball. When UMA implemented a bowling program she also dove into that. Peaslee worked for Student Life and was Vice President of the SGA. She was on campus every day and partook in everything that UMA had to offer. In 2013, Peaslee graduated with a BS in Business Administration.
“Being a student-athlete at UMA helped me with my transition from high school to college by providing me the chance to meet new people and having staff that guided me in the direction towards success,” says Peaslee on her experiences. “Athletics at UMA gave me an opportunity to be a part of a program that showed you what it means to be a part of a family and have teammates that you can trust to have your back in any given situation. It gave me the opportunity to create life long bonds that would continue after my career. Once a family, always a family.”
Now, Peaslee is working towards a master’s degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Administration. She is also an assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Plymouth State University.
Her accomplishments at UMA were extremely significant and will be something that she will always remember. Peaslee was named UMA Outstanding Female Athlete three years in a row. She was chosen as a USCAA All-American for Soccer in 2012. Peaslee was the first UMA women’s basketball 1,000 point scorer in the history of our program. She was selected 2 time all conference for basketball as well as a USCAA honorable mention. She earned 3 all conference titles for soccer as well as a National championship all tournament team for soccer. During her senior year, Peaslee helped lead the bowling team to their conference championship win. She was awarded the UMA women’s basketball career achievement award for her many contributions to our athletic department and to UMA.
“Anything that needed to be done, she did, without question,” remembers Coach Laney of Peaslee. “She was a team player that never stopped working. She set the example for her teammates and helped expand our program throughout her four years. Peaslee continues to be involved in the program and supports the new faces of our team. She will always be a Lady Moose at heart.”
